The Sanniti family descends from the Samnites, a people in central and southern Italy dating back more than 2,000 years. The Sannitis are a branch of the populations that come from the Osco-Umbrian region, located in an extensive flat landscape surrounded by the Sannio mountains.
Historically, the Sannitis are known for being passionate and strong-willed warrior-herders. Their exhibitions and combat contests, although not deadly, laid the foundation for what would later become the gladiatorial games in Rome.
The Sannitis also valued the freedom and well-being of the community above all else. Before being annexed by the Roman Empire, they fought to maintain equal rights for all, and wealthy people within the community shared their good fortune with others.
This same mentality endures in the Sanniti family today, and is the loving approach with which we share our gourmet Italian foods and specialties with people across the United States.
